G'day Geoff and all the best for the New Year. Mate we have survived another one and from reading your blog I assume you lost a loved one in 2008. My mum passed away Feb 2008 aged 94. The end of an era I suspect for both of us.

Cheers mate and will stay in touch.

Hi Geoff, found this site today as I was updating my family tree. My grandmother was Mary Grace Date(nee Sheehan) from Lanceston. As my father's middle name was Wilkins (Robert Wilkins Date), and Grace being my grandmother's middle name, there has definitely got to be some form of family connection between out family histories. I have heard of Gace Ruth Wilkins but am not sure if she was my grandmothers mum. Do you know if she had any daughters? or if she had a sister who may be my grandmothers mum? Anyway, hope to hear from you. regards Brendan

Hi Mick

We lived in Daisy Street, North Balgowlah from 1959 to 1968 before moving to Newport.

The presenters comments do make the video clip I reckon.

Cheers

Thats really interesting Alexander. Thanks for making the post mate. Obviously more genealogical digging to do to confirm the legends.

There's a reference in the Death Notice for John Darling Kennedy published in the SMH that he was the 2nd son of the then current Marquis of Ailsa.

Norm Sheehan Sr has a diary that John Kennedy kept on his journey from England to Sydney. It also suggests the Culzean-Kennedy lineage.

Cheers

our Kennedy Branch was noT descended from the Kennedy Branch of Culzean but from the fighting Kennedy of the Borders.
The most famous being James 1771
Innkeeper of the Ordnance Arms Hotel 12 High Street Hawick, better known as the Cannon Inn. The Inn had a large pictorial signboard above the door of the Inn depicting a cannon, not surprising seeing the Landlord was an old artillery man.
James rose to Quarter-Master-Sergent in the Royal Horse Artillery. He served as "Preses' of the Relief Kirk Session. He was know locally as a veteran of of Waterloo. He enlisted in 1793 and retired from the Army in 1819, during which time he saw almost constant active duty, including the Peninsula War and Waterloo. He was present at Badajos, Torres Vedras, Salamanca, Cuidad Radrigo and Vittoria. He was also part of the occuping army in Paris after Waterloo. It was during this time in Paris that he married a Parisian. He attained the highest grade of a non-commissioned soldier and apparently turned down a commission. He was known as one of the best artillerists in his regiment. After retiring from the army he was a Miller at Spittal-on-Rule for a brief period. Next he became Landlord of the Ordnance Arms Hotel (which he presumably named) which was also known locally as the Cannon Inn, at 12 High Street, Hawick.
