Statistics
Fi gave me a great statistic today.
More people in the USA are killed each year by falling vending machines than are killed in shark attacks.
Makes you wonder about where to get your next Coke.

Commemorative Bench - the Late J.E. Sheehan
Manly-Warringah Council is erecting a park bench for weary walkers near the swings at Riddle Reserve on Pittwater Road, Bayview which has been paid for by the friends and family of the late J.E. Sheehan, who died on the 7th November 2007.
Becky Scott and Stephanie Williamson have driven this with great appreciation. A plaque is being included on the bench that reads:
Friends,
Come, sit with me a while…
Together we’ll reminisce, and smile….

Walking Again - Well Almost
After breaking my heel in an accident on the 24th November 2007 I am walking again unaided about 20% of the time. I don’t quite have absolute confidence in my right leg yet, but at least there’s no pain, just a bit of stiffness in the ankle joint which is much better this week than last week. I still carry a crutch with me, but it is used more as a safety net than for providing real support.
Software, the Web and Widgets
Our primary work focus is involved with online businesses, has been since the late 1990’s, and we mostly work from home. This means we have to watch, quite closely, our internet usage to ensure we don’t exceed our allocation and get shaped (slowed down).
To help monitor our usage I used to log into Bigpond 4 - 8 times each day and check our stats. I did this until OS X 10.4 Tiger was released.
Once Tiger was released and widgets started appearing I found Luke Lehnstein’s widget that displayed some internet usage stats. It was a god send for me as it meant I no longer had to remember to log into Bigpond to check our usage stats. This saved me about 30-40 minutes (including distraction time) a day. I think I read about this widget at Whirlpool.
